To help increase security around student information, SchoolTool is introducing a new security feature called Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). This change is being made by SchoolTool (the student information system used by the Elmira City School District) and will take effect for all parent accounts on March 1, 2026. This safety enhancement is part of SchoolTool’s platform-wide security updates.

What This Means for You

When you log in to the SchoolTool Parent Portal after March 1:

  • You will enter your usual username and password.

  • You will receive an email from no-reply@schooltool.com with the subject line “SchoolTool Two-Factor Authentication Code.”

  • That email will contain a one-time verification code that expires after 15 minutes.

  • Enter the code on the SchoolTool login page to complete sign-in.

How Often Will This Happen?

You will be asked to complete this second step once every 7 days. This schedule is set by SchoolTool and cannot be extended.

SchoolTool can recognize your network/IP address, not your specific device. If you switch networks—for example, from home Wi-Fi to mobile data—you may be asked to authenticate again.

Tips

  • If you don’t see the verification email, check your spam or junk folder.

  • Make sure the email on your SchoolTool account is up to date so you can receive the verification code.
